Turkey-UK Relations in post Brexit: A new phase beyond the trade?

Circle Foundation is proud to announce yet another important webinar that explores the Turkey-UK relationship. ‘Turkey-UK Relations in post Brexit: A new phase beyond the trade?’

The UK has signed a free trade deal with Turkey, its first since agreeing a Brexit deal to leave the EU – a development that will strengthen ties between the two European outliers.

The deal with Turkey is the fifth-biggest free trade agreement that the UK trade ministry had agreed. The deal covers trade worth £18.6 billion.

Both countries have also committed to working towards a more ambitious free trade agreement in the future, which will go further than the existing deal.

The purpose of this panel is to provide an insight to the future UK-Turkey relationship after Brexit and to draw a projection to possible scenarios of how the future UK-Turkey relations will evolve in the aftermath. The panel will also explore whether such a trade deal would lead to a closer economic and political partnership between the two countries.

The panel speakers:

  • Nihat Zeybekci – Former Minister of the Economy of Turkey
  • Daniel Kawczynski MP – the Conservative MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham.
  • Dr Yaprak Gursoy – Senior Lecturer of Politics and International Relations at Aston University and a Research Associate at the Centre for International Studies (CIS), University of Oxford.
  • Chair: Lord Mark McInnes of Kilwinning – the Co-Chair of All Party Parliamentary Group Turkey (APPG Turkey)
  • Sir Dominick Chilcott KCMG– British Ambassador to Turkey
